Build forms

Sections, subsections & questions

How forms are structured and every question type you can use.

Every form is made of three building blocks:

BlockWhat it isExample
SectionA major part of the form. Can be shown one per page.“About you”, “Experience”, “Documents”
SubsectionA group of questions inside a section.“Emergency contact”, “References”
Question (item)A single field the respondent fills in.“Email address”

Sections, subsections and questions can all be required, repeatable and conditional.

Required

  • A required question must be answered.
  • A required section or subsection behaves normally: its required questions must be answered.
  • An optional (not required) section or subsection can be skipped entirely. But once the respondent answers anything inside it, its required questions apply. This is perfect for things like “Second guarantor (optional)”.

Question IDs

Each question has an ID (for example email or years_experience). IDs identify answers in exports, the API and webhooks. In Normal mode IDs are created for you; switch to Developer mode to edit them.

IDs start with a letter, use letters, digits and _, and must be unique within the form. Avoid renaming IDs after publishing if you have integrations that rely on them.

Limits

  • Up to 50 sections, 200 elements per section, 200 options per question.
  • Free plan: 50 questions per form. Pro: 500.
