Repeatable sections & questions
Let respondents add as many entries as they need — jobs, guests, references, phone numbers.
Anything can repeat: a whole section, a subsection, or a single question.
Turn on repeating
Select the section, subsection or question in the builder and switch Repeatable on. Then set:
- Minimum entries — how many entries are needed (when required).
- Maximum entries — the most a respondent can add (up to 100).
- Button label — for example “Add another position”.
Respondents see an Add another button and can remove entries they don’t need.
How the rules work
- Required repeatable: at least
max(minimum, 1)entries. - Optional repeatable: zero entries is fine; if they add any, at least the minimum applies.
- Completely blank entries are ignored, so an accidental “Add another” never blocks submission.
Nesting
Repeatable subsections can live inside repeatable sections. A job application can have several positions, and each position several references.
What the answers look like
Repeatable containers produce lists of objects; repeatable questions produce lists of values:
{
"full_name": "Ada Lovelace",
"links": ["https://github.com/ada", "https://ada.dev"],
"experience": [
{ "company": "Analytical Engines", "years": 4, "refs": [{ "ref_name": "Charles" }] },
{ "company": "Royal Society", "years": 2 }
]
}
Non-repeatable sections and subsections do not add nesting — their questions appear at the top level (or inside the surrounding repeat entry).
Limitations
File uploads, consent, hidden fields and text blocks can’t repeat (file uploads have their own “max files” setting instead).
