Conditional logic
Show sections, subsections and questions only when earlier answers match your rules.
Conditional logic keeps forms short: people only see what is relevant to them.
Add a condition
- Select a section, subsection or question.
- In Show when…, click Add rule.
- Pick an earlier question, an operator and a value.
- With several rules, choose all rules match (AND) or any rule matches (OR).
Without rules, the element is always shown.
Operators
| Operator | Meaning | Example value |
|---|---|---|
| is / is not | Equal (case-insensitive for text, numeric for numbers) | Yes, 18 |
| contains / does not contain | Text contains, or a multi-choice answer includes an option | rust |
| is greater than / is at least | Numbers and dates | 3, 2024-01-01 |
| is less than / is at most | Numbers and dates | 18 |
| is between | Inclusive range | [18, 65] |
| is one of / is none of | Matches any value in a list | ["employed", "retired"] |
| is answered / is empty | Whether the question has an answer | — |
For questions with several answers (multiple choice, repeatable questions), a rule matches when any answer matches — except the negative operators (is not, does not contain, is none of), which require that no answer matches.
Rules that keep logic predictable
- Conditions can only depend on earlier questions. This prevents loops and makes forms easy to follow.
- Inside a repeating group, conditions can use questions from the same entry or from outside the group, but not from a different repeating group.
- Hidden questions are never required, and their answers are discarded when the form is submitted — even if the respondent had filled them in before they were hidden.
Examples
- Show Visa details when Authorized to work is
No. - Show What should we improve? when NPS is at most
6. - Show the Pet details subsection when Has pets is
Yes. - Show Guardian consent when Age is less than
18.
